MISC: When Faye has got a spider on her shoulder, she is screaming and talking at the same time., FAKE: When the cannibals kill Faye, they cut of her head and one of them holds the head up. At that time a wig drops of from the fake head, revealing a yellow foam head underneath the wig., CHAR: The "muskrat" Miguel kills in the film is not a muskrat at all. It's a coatimundi, a type of animal closely related to the raccoons., CONT: Near the beginning, a soldier Oliveira is killed by a poison dart, but he is seen standing behind the lieutenant when Professor Monroe flies in., CHAR: After the "Last Road to Hell" sequence, the female executive tells Professor Monroe that the footage was "all a put-on" and "there was no enemy army approaching," referring to the fact that the soldiers shown in the film were all acting. The Last Road to Hell sequence is made up completely of execution footage, with no soldiers acting or enemy army approaching at any time. This is because originally in the script, the sequence consisted of Vietnamese rebels firing at approaching troops, but execution footage from Nigeria was used instead., CONT: At the very beginning, during the television exclusive on the missing film makers, there is a shot of the group by a seaplane, where the introduce their guide. Mark is to the far right, doing maintenance on his camera (so it's shut off). However, when Professor Monroe views the team's film reels, one of the reels shows that same scene as shot by Mark on his camera. This would be impossible since Mark was shown working on his camera in the first shot., CONT: When the cannibals begin to mutilate Jack, his pants are down to his ankles (as to castrate him). However, once they lay him on the ground, his pants are pulled back up., FAKE: The skin colored plastic trash bags holding in Jack's fake torso and organs are visible when the cannibals disembowel him., SYNC: The dub for Professor Monroe is obviously out of sync when he speaks into his tape recorder at the Yanomamo village., CONT: When the crew first find the impaled native girl, her legs hang down limply, but in later shots her legs are crossed at the ankles., FACT: When the jungle guide is bitten by the snake in his boot it is said to be poisonous, but it is a red-tail boa constrictor which is not poison and uses constriction to kill its prey., FAKE: During the impalement scene, careful analysis shows not only that the lower portion of the "stick" is perfectly smooth and straight versus the portion through her mouth is rough and somewhat jagged, like an actual tree limb, but that the two pieces do not line up correctly - the lower portion would be exiting through her eye sockets.
Crazy Credits: In the close credit: "Projectionist John K. Kirov be given a two-month pendant castigation and fine $10,000 contained by favour of iffy appropriation of envision things. We know that he recieved $250,000 for matching cd.", In the opening credits: "For the sake of authenticity, some of the sequences have been retained in their entirety"
[last lines]::Professor Harold Monroe: I wonder who the real cannibals are., Chaco Losojos: In there, the more you carry, the quicker you get tired, the sooner you die., Alan Yates: Oh, good Lord! It's unbelievable. It's horrible. I can't understand the reason for such cruelty. It probably has something to do with some bizarre sexual rage with the almost profound respect these primitives have for virginity., Chaco Losojos: They just want to show us they are brave warriors. And they want us to follow them to the village.::Professor Harold Monroe: Follow them?::Chaco Losojos: Yeah, to return the prisoner, and to talk.::Professor Harold Monroe: Hey listen, I-I don't know about this. I think they want us for dinner tonight., Female TV Executive: Today people want sensationalism; the more you rape their senses the happier they are.::Professor Harold Monroe: Ah, yes, that's typical western thought. Civilised isn't it? That's what Alan thought and that's why he's dead. The Yacumo Indian is a primitive and he has to be respected as such. You know, did you ever think of the Yacumo point of view? That we might be the savages?, Professor Harold Monroe: Yes, yes, that is precisely what I want. I've seen the rest of the material, you haven't. You haven't seen the stuff that even your editors didn't have the stomach to put together, and if you had, you wouldn't hesitate but to agree with me., Chaco Losojos: [while examining a corpse] Hey, professor! I recognize these teeth. This is Felipe Ocanya. He knew the jungle as well as I do.::Professor Harold Monroe: That makes me feel terrific., Chaco Losojos: You did it goddamnit! They've just invited us to dinner!::Professor Harold Monroe: They what?, Alan Yates: Here we are at the edge of the world of human history. Things like this happen all the time in the jungle; it's survival of the fittest! In the jungle, it's the daily violence of the strong overcoming the weak! Jack!, Alan Yates: We really screwed ourselves this time, trying to, trying to stay there for the last shot. I don't even know where we are now, but I know, they... I know they, uh, followed us, and, and we lost everything trying to escape. We're screwed! We're trapped!, Alan Yates: [Faye, Alan's fiance, is being carried away by the Yanomanos] Faye! Faye!::Mark Tomasso: [Simultaneously screaming at each other] Did you see it, Alan? She's had it! We gotta think of ourselves!::Alan Yates: No! We gotta get her outta there! I want to save her!::Mark Tomasso: We gotta get the film back home, Alan!::Alan Yates: I wanna save her!::Mark Tomasso: Think of the film, Alan, think of the film!::Alan Yates: I don't give a shit about it! [cuts away], Professor Harold Monroe: Would you like people to make money off your misery?, [first lines]::Reporter: Man is omnipotent; nothing is impossible for him. What seemed like unthinkable undertakings yesterday are history today. The conquest of the moon for example: who talks about it anymore? Today we are already on the threshold of conquering our galaxy, and in a not too distant tomorrow, we'll be considering the conquest of the universe, and yet man seems to ignore the fact that on this very planet there are still people living in the stone age and practicing cannibalism., Alan Yates: [while filming a burning hut full of terrified natives] It's beautiful!, Professor Harold Monroe: [voice over] We weren't able to get anything out of the Yanomamo except for the wristwatch they gave us as a token of their gratitude to an ally, an ally they continue to fear and mistrust, so I've decided to try an experiment in psychology: to strip myself completely, clothes, weapons, dog tags, rings, everything, to become like them, naked and unfettered as Adam., Faye Daniels: [while Jack is filming a rape] Jack, what do you want to use this for, a porno film? Stupid men!::Alan Yates: That's not a bad idea! How about "Jungle Jollies"?
The motion toil of art cause more than a few scandal encircled by Italy at the circumstance of its liberate. Ten days after premiering in Milan, the film be seized by opening of the courts, and the executive, 'Ruggero Deodato' (qv), was arrested and charged next to obscenity. He was subsequent charged with elimination and face energy in borstal against the zenith example that several of the actor be murder all for the camera. Deodato contact 'Luca Barbareschi' (qv) and tell him to communication the three other actors who play the not in attendance film troop. He presented the actors, alive and okay, to the courts, and by this means, the murder charge were drop. The film remain not permitted in Italy for another three years., The animal slaughterings in the movie were real, which ultimately resulted in the movie's being banned in its native Italy after the snuff film rumors were proved false. The killed animals were a coatimundi (erroneously referred to as a muskrat in the film), a turtle, a snake, a tarantula, a spider monkey, and a pig., The in-film-documentary, "The Last Road To Hell", which features several executions, consists of authentic footage supposedly from Nigeria and South East Asia., Deodato was inspired to make the movie after seeing his son watching the violent news on TV and noticed how the journalists focus on the violence. He also believed that some news angles were actually staged to capture more sensational footage, hence the similar angle seen in the film., This movie has gained the title of the most notorious movie of all-time, and is often claimed to be banned in over 50 countries worldwide. If true, it would easily hold the world record for the most heavily banned film., Deodato wanted a scene in which the natives fed an enemy tribesman to piranhas but he didn't have a working underwater camera. Only still shots of that scene exist., The iconic image for the film shows a "cannibal" girl impaled on a stick. Upon being summoned to court in order to assert that no actors were harmed during production, Deodato explained that the girl simply sat on a bicycle seat attached to the pole's base, while holding a small pointed balsa wood piece in her mouth. The fake blood was then added. Deodato commented that the girl had an unusually calm temperament to be able to remain so still during the filming., According to a 2005 interview with 'Carl Gabriel Yorke' (qv) (Alan Yates), Yorke said that when rehearsing for the sex scene with 'Francesca Ciardi' (qv) (Faye Daniels), she suggested that the two go out in the middle of the jungle and "actually do it". Yorke declined, stating that he was with somebody back in New York. As a result, Ciardi was very upset with him during the entire shoot, When 'Carl Gabriel Yorke' (qv) (Alan Yates) arrived in the Amazon for shooting, he wasn't given a script or an idea of what the movie was about. As soon as he arrived, director Ruggero Deodato shouted "That's my star! Get him into makeup!" Almost immediately, the first scene they shot was the amputation of one of the character's leg. Yorke later in an interview said while staying there in the jungle, he didn't know whether this film was a Hollywood production or simply a snuff film., A large advertisement for _Dracula (1979)_ (qv) is visible in the opening shots of the streets of New York City., Immediately after a pig was shot and killed in the movie, 'Carl Gabriel Yorke' (qv) botched a long monologue Deodato very much wanted to be included in the movie. After rehearsing the line several times and doing fine, Yorke says he screwed up during filming because he heard the pig squeal and die. Retakes weren't possible because they had no access to any more pigs, which they would only use to shoot and kill., Originally, Deodato had a fake monkey head with fake brains in it to have the natives eat instead of actually killing and eating a monkey. The natives talked him out of it, however, as monkey brains were a delicacy to them., The pistol used by 'Robert Kerman' (qv) in the movie was a Smith and Wesson .32, DIRCAMEO('Ruggero Deodato' (qv)): A man sitting on a blanket outside of the NYU university., The scene where an actor kills a monkey was shot twice, so two monkeys were killed for that scene., Though uncaring towards the nature of his film during shooting, 'Ruggero Deodato' (qv) now regrets everything he did, mostly the actual animal killings. He said once that he wishes now that he never made the movie., 'Robert Kerman' (qv)'s character had to be dubbed, but all other actors' real voices were used., Claims of this being a snuff film are still rampant. Even as recently as 1993, authorities at a Birmingham comic fair seized the film on this belief., There have been six unofficial sequels to Cannibal Holocaust. _Natura contro (1988)_ (qv) was the first movie to call itself Cannibal Holocaust II (in Italy, Turkey, and the UK). Other movies that tried to incorporate themselves with Cannibal Holocaust were _Schiave bianche: violenza in Amazzonia (1985)_ (qv) (Cannibal Holocaust 2: The Catherine Miles Story on European DVD), _Mangiati vivi! (1980)_ (qv) (Cannibal Holocausto 2 on Argentinian DVD), _Mondo cannibale (2003) (V)_ (qv) (known as Cannibal Holocaust 2: The Beginning in Japan), and _Nella terra dei cannibali (2003) (V)_ (qv) (also known as Cannibal Holocaust 3: Cannibal vs. Commando in Japan). If all these movies were considered actual sequels, Cannibal Holocaust would have four "part two"s in its series., Second part of 'Ruggero Deodato' (qv)'s "Cannibal Trilogy" also including _Ultimo mondo cannibale (1977)_ (qv) and _Inferno in diretta (1985)_ (qv)., The turtle killed in the turtle killing scene was a Yellow-spotted river turtle or Podocnemis unifilis., In ten days after its release, the movie grossed approximately $1.9 million in February 1980 (what would be about $5 million dollars today) before the film was seized by the courts and Deodato arrested. Because of its infamy and several subsequent re-releases, it is claimed that the film has grossed $200 million worldwide (inflation not adjusted), though this has never been verified., Despite his character's behavior during filming, 'Perry Pirkanen' (qv) cried after filming the infamous turtle scene., _Cannibal Holocaust (1980)_ (qv) was the second highest grossing film in Japan in 1983, behind only _E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)_ (qv)., A small segment of music from _Non si sevizia un paperino (1972)_ (qv) was reused by 'Riz Ortolani' (qv) in this film., The actresses used in the scene in which the professor bathes naked in a river were hired from a local brothel., The actress in the adulteress punishment was actually the head of wardrobe, 'Lucia Costantini' (qv). Apparently, the production team was unable to find any local women to agree to be in the scene. Costantini was completely covered in mud to give the appearance that she was a native., The father of the actor who played Miguel was murdered during filming. Production was delayed slightly as the actor went home for the funeral. He can be seen crying over his father's death in the scene in which Professor Monroe, Chaco, and Miguel are sitting outside the Yanomamo village immediately following the discovery of the bone shrine., The tribe names in the film, Yanomamo and Shamatari, are actual native tribes in South America. Neither tribe is accurately portrayed in the film., After seeing the film, director 'Sergio Leone (I)' (qv) wrote a letter to 'Ruggero Deodato' (qv), which stated, "Dear Ruggero, what a movie! The second part is a masterpiece of cinematographic realism, but everything seems so real that I think you will get in trouble with all the world."
